Award-winning architecture firm has closed down

FIRM IS EXPECTED TO GO INTO LIQUIDATION WITHIN WEEKS

AN award-winning Plymouth architecture company which designed some of the city's most famous buildings over the past 40 years has ceased trading.

Millbay-based ADG has been responsible for City College Plymouth's £13 million STEM Centre, the Hoe's Azure apartment block, the Peninsula Dental School at Derriford, and Plymouth Fish Market, among many others.

However, it has now appointed insolvency practitioners at Plymouth's Brailey Hicks and is expected to go into liquidation within weeks.

Directors said the company had become financially unviable and blamed the slowdown in the construction industry, plus inflation and increased regulation.

It is understood bosses told staff last week that the company was going out of business. A recorded message on the company's phone line said: "We regret to inform you that ADG Consultancy Ltd has ceased trading with immediate effect."

Patrick Deigan, a director at ADG, told The Herald: "The current directors took over the practice in April 2020 when the country was battling the Covid pandemic and businesses were having to adapt to new ways of working. We adjusted to this but now face a reduction in our predicted workload due to projects being put on hold and other projects coming to an end.
