City sanctuary appeals for help

A PLYMOUTH animal sanctuary is urgently appealing for food donations as the number of cats and kittens in its care reaches critical levels.

All of Woodside Animal Welfare Sanctuary's emergency pens are currently occupied with unwanted and abandoned cats in need of loving homes.

With numbers expected to rise further as kitten season begins, the charity's stock of cat food has plummeted to its lowest level in years.

Sanctuary manager Dawn Cornish said there are currently around 70 cats on site, with more than half a dozen of these cats arriving at the Sanctuary pregnant.
