Hallett having too good a time to step away from club

PLYMOUTH Argyle are actively seeking a new investor but chairman and majority shareholder Simon Hallett has set a strict criteria of requirements.

It is not all about the amount of money offered, with 68-year-old Hallett putting a high importance on any investor sharing the vision and vales the Championship club operate by. Hallett made it clear in an interview with Herald Sport yesterday that he would like to carry on as long as he can in his current roles.

However, for Argyle to try to achieve their mission of becoming a top-six Championship club with Premier League aspirations by 2028 extra financial support is going to be needed.

A group of US-based investors bought 20 percent of the Pilgrims in August 2022 but some of the members of Argyle Green have since moved on, with Hallett buying 3.3 million shares for them to take his stake in the club up to 87 percent.

When Argyle launched their new five-year plan last week, Hallett made a point of saying: “I’m having too good a time to stop now” as he confirmed his intention to continue as the chairman and majority shareholder.

Asked about that comment, Hallett said: “I’m having fun because it has worked. I have obviously been involved in a very successful investment business but when we started we didn’t really know what we were doing.

“I mean we had ideas, but it was very much learned as we go about how to make an investment firm successful. We were quite young, quite naive investors apart from anything else.

“We learned how to become better investors and we learned how to run a better investment company but at no particular time were we certain we were on the right track. With Argyle, I was clear in my mind what we wanted to do and how we were going to go about it.
