A PLYMOUTH MP has urged the Health Secretary to visit Derriford Hospital after joining staff in A&E for an “eye-opening” night shift - with some patients waiting 29 hours for a bed.
The call comes as the future of the hospital’s planned new Urgent and Emergency Care facility remains hanging in the balance.
The scheme is one of 25 hospital projects promised under the Conservatives’ New Hospital Programme for England. Health Secretary Wes Streeting said the programme as a whole was “undeliverable and unaffordable”.
Plymouth Moor View MP Fred Thomas wrote to Mr Streeting this week to share his experiences on the night shift at Derriford Hospital and called on him to visit the hospital himself so that he can see the issues it is facing.
