TOLD TO MOVE OUT BY PRIMARY SCHOOL
WILLIAM TELFORD

A PLYMOUTH pre-school is trying to find a new home after a primary school told it to move out.

Staff at Greenshoots pre-school said they were "gutted" after Laira Green Primary School said it wanted to start its own provision for children potentially as young as two.

The pre-school has operated in rooms inside the school's Bramley Road premises for 14 years but from next year the school wants to run its own pre-school, having already taken over the "wraparound" early morning and afterschool care.

A consultation has begun on the proposal but Greenshoots, a charity rated "outstanding" by Ofsted, is expecting to be evicted and is already looking for new premises.

Greenshoots trustees said the Government wants to expand the number of schools running their own pre-schools, meaning the pre-school will end up closing its provision in the primary school in July next year. It said the move was nothing more than a "business decision".
