Whitchurch take the honours in derby with Tavistock

WHITCHURCH scraped home by 12 runs against near neighbours Tavistock 2nd XI in the E Division West derby clash.

Ben Hodge top scored with 73 for Whitchurch in their all-out total of 209. Hodge and Nigel Barriball (51) put on 91 for the fifth wicket.

Hodge was the last man out having been involved in stands that at 161 to the team total.

Six of Tavistock's seven bowlers took at least a wicket. Andy Gauler, Brett Thomas and Jack Bellamy went one better with two.

Tavvy got to 52 for one without too many issues then lost three wickets before reaching 60. Hodge (3-29) did much of the damage.

Tony Bicknell dogged it out to make 47 and when he went Thomas (35) briefly kept the chase going. Bits and pieces, as well as some of the 39 extras given away, got Tavistock up to 197 before they ran out of wickets.

Wickets were shared with three for Hodge, two for Richard Potts and one each Darren Sambells, Marc Kerswill and Jack McKenzie.

PLYMOUTH CS&R put their opening-day drubbing by Plymstock behind them with six-wicket win at Ipplepen 2nd XI in the D Division West.

Veteran batsman Jeff Heath top scored for Pens with 40 off 60 balls in their total of 174 all out.

Adam Peters (20) and Heath shared an opening stand of 37 that ended when Matt Trevorrow (2-37) snared the former lbw.

Gareth Penrice, Steve Bowden and Freddie Harvey all got to 21 then got out. Vikhat Rajaraman (3-29) finished off Pens' lower order.

Civil's batting was solid from start to finish with all six used getting into double figures.
