PEOPLE have been left out of pocket by a hotel event 'scam' that has seen people book tickets for themed dinners across Cornwall that do not even exist.
Dozens of people were due to attend one of four 1920s-themed evenings advertised across Cornwall which were meant to start on Thursday.
The 'escape room' event was advertised to take place at the Harbour Hotel in St Ives by an external company not affiliated with the hotel, operating under the name Wine Escape. But customers have been left in the lurch after the hotel confirmed no such event was ever booked to take place at the venue.
One group of 14 paid £800 for their tickets and found out it did not exist when someone called the venue to confirm.
A second event was advertised on Facebook by the company as an 'exclusive party' event to take place at the chain's Padstow hotel over the weekend.
A third was advertised at Penventon Hotel in Redruth and a fourth at the Atlantic Hotel in Newquay but none of the hotels were even aware and they say no events of the kind are booked to take place.
