Toxic fumes from burning contributing to air pollution, affecting communities far from source
IN A deplorable act, waste, including plastic, is being dumped and burnt close to lodging houses near the Government Medical College Hospital at Gandhinagar, Kottayam.
The practice is taking place in an area, which currently houses hundreds of patients and bystanders who are temporarily staying nearby the MCH after receiving medical treatment, including surgeries.
Waste is also being burnt at night at the private bus stand at Gandhinagar, creating significant health risks to numerous patients.
The toxic fumes from burning plastic is also contributing to air pollution, affecting not only the area around the burning site but also communities far from the source.
