Never have our feathered friends been quite so scary! Alfred’s Hitchcock’s cult classic movie The Birds turns 60 this year. We found some facts about the film that will set the cat amongst the pigeons.

Daphne's disgust

The Birds was originally a short story written by "mistress of menace" Daphne du Maurier. It was a chilling tale about a population of birds who start attacking people after a brutal winter depletes their food supply. Hitchcock bought the rights to the story and told his screenwriter, "We're getting rid of the du Maurier story entirely. We're just keeping the title and the notion of birds attacking people." Daphne hated the screen adaptation and could not understand why the director had distorted her original idea.
