In those heady first days of their eye-bogglingly public romance, Pamela Anderson says of her rock star husband Tommy Lee, “We just wanted to have babies and be together forever.”
What happened after that is the stuff of Hollywood legend: yes, there were babies, but there was also that famous sex tape, the bitter divorce… and much more besides.
Now, 25 years after her union with Mötley Crüe rocker Tommy exploded into a thousand pieces, Pamela is telling her own story.
The iconic blonde bombshell, who rocketed to stardom in Baywatch in 1992, has cooperated with a Netflix documentary called Pamela: A Love Story, which begins screening on January 31. And on the same day, the star is also releasing her memoir, Love, Pamela.
The timing of the star’s sudden entrance back into the limelight is no accident.
Pamela, 55, was incensed last year when a television production company made an unauthorised mini-series about her life with Tommy, focusing on the sex tape scandal that preceded the pair’s divorce.
“It was already hurtful enough the first time,” she said recently about the show Pam & Tommy. “It’s like one of those things where you’re going, ‘Really? People are still capitalising off that thing?’”
It was time, she decided, to tell her story in her own words, and it was her sons with Tommy, Brandon, 26, and Dylan, 25, who “encouraged me to tell my story”.
