Do you adore seahorses? They’re my favourite sea creatures. Not so sure yourself? Let me throw this at you. It’s the male seahorse that becomes pregnant and carries the young around until release. Are you now cheering for seahorses like it was the Melbourne Cup?
In case you wonder if seahorses are obscurely linked to the equine world, no, they’re not. They’re fish – just cute, outrageously adorable fish. But worldwide, the number of seahorses in the wild is dropping alarmingly. Researchers estimate 37 million seahorses worldwide are taken from shallow coastal waters every year, mostly as a by-catch (kind of accidental) by fishing trawlers.
