You wouldn't want to mess with Sidney Prescott, the character played by Neve Campbell in the Scream movies. She's a tough woman who's not afraid to stand up for herself and now it seems Neve is showing the same determination - albeit without having to dispatch serial killers.
Neve has revealed that she won't be reprising her role as Sidney in the sixth Scream film because the producers aren't prepared to pay her enough. The Canadian star - who first appeared as Sidney 26 years ago - says she's sad not to be continuing in the hugely successful horror film franchise but she has to make a stand.
"As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream," explains Neve, who last played Sidney in the fifth installment, Scream, which came out earlier this year.
"I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It's been a very difficult decision to move on."
Neve, 48, has previously spoken out about pay rates in the entertainment industry, including the disparity between pay for male and female actors in Hollywood.
"I know for a fact that I've not been paid equally on any job for whatever position I have been in," she says.
Neve, who first found fame in the TV series Party of Five, talked about how she was offered less money than her male co-stars, despite having more experience, when starting work many years earlier on a TV show she didn't want to name.
