Donna Douglas is best known for her role as Elly May Clampett in the ’60s sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies. After the massive success of Sister Act, which took $395 million at the box office, the actress filed a lawsuit against the movie’s makers, claiming they’d stolen the story from a script she’d sent Disney in the ’80s. Donna was hoping for a payday to match the enormous wealth her legendary sitcom character enjoyed (the Beverly Hillbillies were a poor family who struck oil on their rural patch of land and moved to the salubrious LA neighbourhood to live the high life), but the judge found against her.
