We all know we should be looking after ourselves a bit more, but who has the energy to make big, drastic changes - especially at this time of year? The good news is that overhauling your whole lifestyle is not only unnecessary, but it won't last. You'll likely snap right back into any bad habits and feel more demotivated than before. We've all been there! Instead, to safeguard your mental and physical health for good, try making small tweaks to your existing routine - like always carrying a pair of sunglasses in your bag.
'You should be as cautious with your eyes around sunlight as you are with your skin,' says optometrist Rakesh Kapoor from Specsavers. While your skin is largely covered in winter, on a bright day, your eyes are still vulnerable.
'Protecting against UV light helps reduce the risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration, which can lead to blindness,' Rakesh adds.
Wondering what else you can do? We asked the top health specialists to share their insider tricks. Try them daily (you'll barely notice the effort) and you'll soon feel the benefits.
YOUR ALL-NEW HEALTH RULES
They may seem small, but make these actions non-negotiable and they have the power to make you feel healthier and happier.
Smell your dental floss
'Sniff your floss after using it because usually it smells gross - that's the scent of bacteria having a party where your brush can't reach,' says James Goolnik, founder of Bow Lane Dental Group. 'It will encourage you to keep flossing every day! You need to brush for two minutes twice a day. 'Most people brush for 30 seconds - but that's not enough,' adds James.
