Tributes last night poured in for pioneering actress Jill Gascoine who died aged 83.
She had been battling Alzheimer’s for a decade.
Jill was the first woman in a lead role in a British police drama when she played Detective Inspector Maggie Forbes in ITV’s The Gentle Touch.
Jill continued as Forbes in 1980s spin-off C.A.T.S. Eyes. A decade earlier, she also played Letty in BBC series The Onedin Line.
