Technology has played a significant role in shaping the vertical transportation of today. Modern elevators and escalators are smarter and have undergone various design changes centred around safety, quality, and efficiency that allow adaptation to the building requirements of today. With cities growing taller and skyscrapers reaching new heights every day, the need for high-speed elevators is growing at the same pace.

These high-speed elevators ensure that passengers reach the destination floors quicker, without wasting much time in elevators. “Faster elevators mean transporting a maximum number of passengers in a given period of time. In commercial segments, elevator manufacturers perform a traffic calculation on the expected traffic to determine and recommend the elevator speeds and number of elevators,” explains Amit Gossain, MD, KONE India, adding that, like smart homes and smart cities, elevators are becoming more high-tech.
