“Dive Again And Again Into The River Of Uncertainty. Create Inthe Dark, Only Then Can You Recognize The Light” Jyrki Vainonen
Deep in a misty haze of dreamlike landscapes, larger than-life subjects and fantastical storytelling, Tran Nguyen’s illustrations explore the unconscious mind with incredible grace, humility, skill, and humanity. “Art exists to better us in some form or shape,” she said, “and it’s my hope that viewers can find comfort in my work.”
Tran’s surreal works are created with a rather psychotherapeutic intent. She doesn’t draw and paint things directly from her life, she uses her personal art to express deep emotion, and the unseen shadows of the subconscious mind. “Adversity and life experiences have very little influence on my style,” she said, “however, they’re the steering wheel for the concepts behind my personal work. The series with the abstract cocoons, larger-than-life figures, etc., all exist because of the things I’ve seen and experienced.”
