Social Architecture - An Architecture That Matters
BluPrint
|Special issue Issue 2, 2018
Architecture is an increasingly vital part of human civilization, but architects find themselves swept along with the currents of societal change instead of being drivers.
-
The evolving conditions of the built environment continue to create denser and more varied population centers in our metropolitan areas, while the rest of the population live in what are becoming increasingly dissimilar small cities, towns, and rural villages. Growth and development continue at unprecedented speeds in today’s emerging economies and technology continues to bring about not just physical but societal change in leaps and bounds. Into this picture, we find architecture struggling to find its place as an integral player in nation-building.
Architecture matters because it is the foremost discipline tasked with figuring out the state and future of our built environment. How and where we live, work, or play are products of architectural thinking. Architecture matters because the future of our urbanizing societies cannot and should not be left to chance but rather created by design.
