Two locomotives, an EMU and three new wagons: after playing catch-up, Bachmann’s Branchline range for 2017 regained some sparkle that some have considered missing from the previous couple of years of ‘austerity’.
Star billing arguably goes to the Johnson ‘1P’ 0-4-4T. The Midland Railway built 205 of these locomotives from 1875 until 1900 and Bachmann has opted for the variant with 18in by 24in cylinders, 5ft 4in diameter driving wheels and 140lbs/sq in boilers. They lasted on London Midland Region duties until 1960. One was even sold to the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway.
