Right On Track: Sprinting Back Into Action

The Virgin Australia Supercars Championship returns with shorter sprint races on the reworked calendar in 2020.

The shorter races bring a different element to what we’ve become used to in recent seasons. It’s short, sharp and explosive; you need to make sure you qualify well, get a good start and minimise mistakes to stay up front.

As for the possibility of reverse-grid races, which was discussed before the season resart, they can be quite hit and miss. It will often depend on whether you get caught up in the carnage around you or not. What it does show, though, is the craftsmanship of drivers; race craft and overtakes need to be clean and decisive.

There is a risk that reverse- grid races will result in more damage and prove costly to teams, so one suggestion would be to have another race soon after the reverse-grid race so the drivers will be forced to minimise risks know- ing there is a short window for repairs.
