The Bend Motorsport Park has set a new standard for permanent racetracks in Australia and is a welcome addition to the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship schedule.

Walking into entrance of The Bend Motorsport Park is a unique experience in Australian motorsport. It’s in the middle of pitlane, the foyer for a Rydges hotel and the base for what’s being called Australia’s first motorsport theme park.

This is the base of the $110-million motorsport precinct at Tailem Bend in South Australia, 100km south-east of Adelaide, now the second largest motorsport circuit after the Nordschleife, Nürburgring, in Germany.

The scale of the precinct can only be appreciated from the top of the paddock/ hotel, so much so that the track stretches to the horizon beyond one’s view.

The Bend Motorsport Park features four different circuit configurations, including the 7.7km ‘GT Circuit’. Supercars race on the 4.95km ‘International Circuit’ (see page 56 and 57), more manageable but nonetheless challenging.

1960 – 2020 TOP 60 DRIVERS

Who are the greatest drivers in the 60-year history of the Australian Touring Car Championship/Supercars? We rank the top 60 with an emphasis on best championship finishes, race-winning percentage and competitive longevity. Only drivers with top 10 championship finishes were considered, to emphasise championship performances over part-time or endurance campaigns. Also, results from the Bathurst 1000 and other endurance events were only factored in when they were part of the championship.
