Fiscal ends on a high for auto sector

Auto sales in FY21 ended on a high, with a 128 percent growth in March 2021 at 320,487 units, compared to 140,566 unit sold in the year-ago month. Top six auto makers posted a whopping triple digit growth during the month.

Maruti Suzuki

The country’s largest passenger car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) posted total sales of 167,014 units in March 2021, consisting of domestic sales (Passenger Vehicle and Light Commercial Vehicle) of 149,518 units, sales to other OEMs of 5,899 units and exports of 11,597 units.

MSIL domestic sales in FY20 had fallen by 18 percent due to reasons that are well known and in FY21 have been impacted due to Covid related factors.

During FY21, the company posted a total sales of 1,457,861 units, which is 6.7 percent lower than FY20. Total sales in the year include domestic sales of 1,323,396 units, sales to other OEMs of 38,326 units and exports of 96,139 units.

Hyundai Motor

Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) registered cumulative sales (domestic + exports) of 64,621 units for March 2021 with a growth of 100 percent over March 2020 volumes.

Commenting on the March 2021 sales performance, Tarun Garg, Director (Sales, Marketing & Service), HMIL said, “With cumulative sales of 64,621 units in March 2021, HMIL has built further on the sales momentum achieved over the last few months. This performance has been backed by our super performer brands such as the Ultimate SUV – CRETA, VENUE, Spirited New VERNA, NIOS and the most awarded car of 2020, the all-new i20.”

He further said, “Adding to the already strong portfolio of Hyundai SUVs, the upcoming 7 seater SUV – ALCAZAR will further set a new paradigm in the segment. Going forward, we shall continue to make efforts so as to remain the Brand of Choice for our beloved customers.”
