Concerned with his strange lilt and swooping inflexions, you suggest that he might be having a stroke, but he insists (with barely restrained indignation) that it was how he has always articulated. You stop speaking to him forever because you just cannot.
Artificial accents are a terrible annoyance inflicted upon society by the über-pretentious. These lexi-connoisseurs select the most fashionable language diction pack – invariably English, American or Australian – and download it into their consciousness by repeatedly chewing words and spitting them back out into the mirror. Soon, they are mouthing off “what-ho” and “hey nanny nanny” with wild abandon, their alreadycontrived speech now peppered with stereotypical foreign terms with no context.
