They agree to an interview and never show up or they head out for lunch and that is the last you will ever hear of them. No resignation, no explanation. This is the age of employee ghosting. TRUE LOVE looks at this new phenomenom
In May this year, Mary lined up an interview for 15 candidates for potential sales and marketing positions with her company. Among the fifteen who were shortlisted, only five showed up for the interview. Out of the five, two made the cut and accepted the job offers. Come reporting day, neither showed up. No explanation no apology. Mary tried to reach them but all her calls went unanswered.
Mary is not the only one who has experienced this new phenomenon. Recruiters worldwide are recognizing that it is a millennial problem that is quickly becoming the newest nightmare for most companies. They spend money on the recruitment process and just when they think they have found the employees that fit the bill, the candidates fail to show up. This phenomenon is known as ‘ Ghosting’ and happens when an employee or potential employee suddenly cut off all communication without an explanation.
There are three instances of ghosting
-When a candidate is a no-show for a scheduled interview.
-They fail to show up on the reporting day after accepting a job offer
-An employee may just stop showing up at work without any word to the employer.
