Agnes Dorah Aloo, 39 is a kizomba instructor. She talks to ANDANJE WOBANDA about her love for music and teaching dance to street children.
When did you get into dance?
From the age of nine, I loved everything to do with dance; from ballet dancers to watching Aaliyah and Ashanti flaunting their flat tummies. This was exciting to me especially because I was a chubby kid.
I heard about Kizomba in 2009. I had been fired that same year from a pediatrician's office where I was working as a secretary. With a lot of time on my hands, I decided to go for a Kizomba work out to lose weight.
How would you categorize kizomba?
Kizomba is very much like Tango. We call it the African Tango. It’s very sensual but not a sexual dance. I have been dancing Kizomba for 9 years and dancing in general for 11 years.
You were a student before you decided to be a trainer. How did this come about?
In April 2017, I was introduced to international instructor, dancer and kizomba promoter Eddy Vents. He made it very simple and classy and it was so easily teachable and after a 3-month course, I became a qualified Kizomba teacher. Learning Kizomba upped my confidence.
