In April 2020, as chaotic headlines flooded the locked-down globe, Giorgio Armani wrote a courageous open letter, calling for “a careful and intelligent slowdown”, reminding us that this time of pause could be the opportunity to help us define a more meaningful and conscious tomorrow. Armani’s vision for fashion and design has remained consistent in his advocacy and practice of moving away from fast trends and indulging in slow, seasonless and elegant luxury.
Back in 1982, the year when Time magazine ran a cover story on ‘Giorgio’s Gorgeous Style’, the designer had just designed his first piece for the home—the pure and geometrical Logo lamp. But it wasn’t until the turn of the millennium, in 2000, that he launched the storied empire’s interior brand Armani/Casa. This year marks Armani/Casa’s 20-year anniversary. But as economies the world over reboot, the designer has set celebrations aside, instead concentrating on his true legacy with a collection that brings together the finest Italian craftsmanship and his unique designer gaze. Extracts from a conversation with Giorgio Armani:
What are your biggest learnings in design from Armani/ Casa as you celebrate its 20th anniversary?
