Outcry Over Lead Phase-out

Members say they should have been consulted by UK’s shooting organisations over plan to phase out lead shot over five-year period

The decision by the country’s shooting organisations to call on members to move away from lead over a five year period has met with both criticism and praise.

Reader James Priscott told Shooting Times: “In my view it was something that was going to happen, an inevitability. There was never going to be a firm move by the industry without a deadline. The announcement will now push the development of alternatives and the five-year time frame seems sensible.”

Another supporter was Angus Cuming, who contacted Shooting Times by email to say: “The self-regulation promoted by the shooting organisations is forward-thinking and proactive and should help to protect shooting in the long run.”
