Mushroom plant (Rungia klossii) is a bushy perennial with crisp, mushroom-flavoured leaves that are good for adding to salads or for cooking. Steam just before serving so that the leaves don’t lose their fresh green appearance.

Plants grow best in semi-shade, in wellcomposted soil that drains well, as well as in pots and window boxes. Plants don’t tolerate cold and wet conditions and are best kept in a warm, sunny and sheltered position in winter. The leaves are a good source of iron, vitamin C, calcium and protein.
