AFTER SURVIVING CANCER AND OVERCOMING HUGE HURDLES TO BECOME A MOTHER, THE DAILY EDITION STAR SALLY OBERMEDER TELLS PAUL EWART WHY HER FUTURE HAS NEVER LOOKED BRIGHTER
Sally Obermeder is known not just for her sparkling smile and her sunny disposition but for her incredible strength in overcoming adversity. She has spoken openly about her lengthy struggle to have children, and the earth-shattering news that she had a rare and aggressive cancer, a diagnosis that kick-started an immediate year-long battle for her life. But lately this TV star, mother-of-two and successful businesswoman has been on a different kind of personal journey. As the new year rolls around, rather than making plans for 2019 and listing resolutions to tick off in the coming months, she’s focused on learning to embrace imperfection and the realisation that she can’t have it all.
“I think, this year in particular, I’ve done a lot of work on myself in terms of dropping the expectation I have that I can keep everything afloat all at the same time, because you just can’t,” the 45-year-old tells Good Health & Wellbeing. “Now, every single day, I remind myself that I’m doing the best that I can and that is good enough. I try to manage the voice in my head that says you’re not doing enough and that you need to keep everyone happy.”
Certainly the sensation of being overwhelmed – alongside the fear of not being good enough – is something that we can all relate to. But it’s refreshing to discover that behind Sally’s dazzling smile and cool, calm, and collected businesswoman’s persona, she’s struggling just like the rest of us. In fact, she’s very quick to dispel myths about her ‘perfect’ life. While on the surface (and on her Instagram account) it might look like she has it all, she’s the first person to admit that it’s far from the truth.
