Cheerful Colours And Clean Lines Work Well Together In This Home.

A Play On Contrasts
When Madelein and Hein Luttig returned to South Africa in 2013 after 13 years in Britain, Kuils River in the Western Cape was the logical place to set up home. After all, it’s where they grew up! Now it’s eight-year-old Cooper’s turn to make memories here, conveniently close to Granny and Grandpa.

“We built a place in the Zevenzicht Residential Estate four years ago and moved here in December 2015,” says Madelein. “It’s a tight-knit little community: everyone greets each other, the children play with the neighbours’ kids and they can run and cycle in the streets quite safely.”

Although the Luttigs had to comply with the development’s strict style requirements when they built their three-bedroom house, it suited them because they prefer the contemporary look. But don’t let their love of clean lines fool you – these two are blessed with a good dash of creativity; they love vibrant colour and there are loads of playful touches in their décor.

One of the first décor pieces Madelein and Hein bought for their new house was wallpaper depicting a huge map of the world. “We love travelling, so it’s great for us to be able to see where we’ve already been or where we’d like to go,” says Madelein with a smile. “It’s always a talking point when friends come to visit. Also, the grey of the map perfectly complements our décor – so it’s easy to bring in any other colour as everything goes with grey.”
