When Kel-Tec CNC Inc. introduced the .22 Magnum PMR-30, I was excited to test this handgun. It was years – not months – before I came to own this elusive handgun. The wait was worth it.

A few weeks ago, I evaluated the CMR-30, a carbine based on the PMR-30 action. Accuracy, reliability and handling are faultless. The CMR-30 is among the best designed and thought-out carbines I have evaluated.

Though it will perform well for small game hunting, informal target practice and pest control, its most important niche is home defense.

THE CARBINE

The CMR-30 is chambered for the .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire cartridge.

The rifle is modern in appearance and makes use of 21st century material. The CMR-30 is constructed of hard anodized aluminum and polymer. The carbine features a single action trigger, a straight blowback mechanism, ambidextrous safety levers and an ergonomic cocking lever that makes racking the bolt easy for those with limited physical strength.

The rifle utilizes a collapsing stock and 16-inch barrel, which is threaded for those that wish to add a sound suppressor. The stock is adjustable for accommodation of pre-teen to slightly built female, all the way to burly male.
