Warts are thickened areas of skin caused by the human papillomavirus, says Dr Aifric Boylan, CEO of online doctor service Qoctor. “You catch the virus by touching the skin of somebody who has warts or something they’ve touched,” she explains. “Wart removal products are available from your pharmacy, or your GP can freeze them with liquid nitrogen,” says Dr Boylan. “Bear in mind that one or two warts may not be very troublesome to begin with, but if you don’t try to get rid of them, the virus may spread and you may get more, so early treatment is usually advised.”
