Renowned journalist Mini Menon has had a fruitful career in media, and it’s just getting better, as she forays into the digital world with her new website, Live History India
Mini graduated from St Stephen’s College, Delhi, with a major in History owing to her fondness towards a subject which is largely dreaded by people. This was all before she won the Femina Miss India Asia Pacific in 1996, moved to the UK to study broadcast journalism and came back to India to become a prominent journalist and went on to receive many accolades, including the Rajiv Gandhi Award. She also wrote two book—Riding The Wave and Business History. But clearly, even after all that time, history, more specifically, Indian history, never left her heart. So, after serving as the executive editor of Bloomberg TV India, she heard her true calling and started the website Live History India along with Akshay Chavan. It’s a portal that brings out the most unknown historical stories in the most engaging way to make history interesting. Here’s what Mini Menon had to say…
Tell us about your passion for history. I wanted to be an archaeologist. I’ve always been obsessed with history. In fact, I started my career as a political journalist because history was the factor influencing that. Even throughout my career, I’ve constantly been in touch with history editors and researchers. We are very lucky to be born in a country with such a deep and multi-layered history. My father was in the army, so we have stayed in small towns and cities across India, and by the age of 21, I had already travelled India by road. When you travel so much, you get rooted to the history.
Tell us about the inception of Live History India.
