Chad O’Shea, who joined Brian Flores after the two worked together in New England, was let go after one year on the job and multiple reports indicated his replacement would be longtime NFL coach Chan Gailey, though no official announcement on his hiring had been made as of Jan. 13.
Josh Boyer will be the new defensive coordinator, according to multiple reports, after serving last season as defensive pass game coordinator/cornerbacks coach. He will replace Patrick Graham, who reportedly was leaving to become defensive coordinator with the New York Giants, for whom he worked in 2016-17.
Among Gailey’s many stops in the NFL was a stint as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys and two years as offensive coordinator with the Dolphins in 2000-01.
It also should be noted that Gailey worked with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick for five years during their time with the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.
Along with O’Shea, the Dolphins also parted ways with safeties coach Tony Oden and offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo.
Though no replacements officially had been announced as of Jan. 13, reports indicated that new coaches besides Gailey would include former Illinois defensive line coach Austin Clark and former high school coach Curt Kuntz.
