The Miami Dolphins decided to trade back from the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to the 12th overall pick. It was a calculated trade, as they then traded up from the 12th overall pick to the sixth overall pick.
In the trade from 12 to 6, Miami gave up the 12th overall pick and their 2022 1st round pick. This meant that whatever player they selected with the 6th overall pick would be someone they valued highly because of the draft capital they gave up to acquire them.
That player was former Alabama wide receiver, Jaylen Waddle.
Waddle was one of the most electrifying players in college football last season, but an ankle injury forced him out for almost the entire season. Waddle did return for the National Championship, but he was not 100% in that game.
