At Radcliffe we’ve just had two nights camping in the hope it will lay the foundations for a successful season.
You’ve got lads who are up for it, some who are sceptical and have never camped before, others who don’t necessarily enjoy that environment. But it worked really well, even better than I thought it would.
The meet-up was last Friday. We told them the food would be cooked at 7pm so, bearing in mind they would have to set-up their tent and get sorted, we told them make sure you’re there and ready.
They started arriving through the afternoon, got their tents up, played some head tennis before the BBQ was ready.
My brother-in-law is a butcher so we had all the best cuts! Karaoke, games of cards – it was a good evening.
The weather saved the players on Saturday! We were going to climb Moel Famau but it was raining hard and then there are the social distancing restrictions in Wales. So instead it was up at 8am on Saturday morning for a long run round the campsite.
After that we had a game of cricket, followed by football cricket. Then we gave them some free time before we watched the FA Cup final together, chatting and having a few beers.
Powerful
The second night was the most powerful night. We had some big stories from the players.
