|May 8, 2020
Megara Furie is a high-profile dominatrix who works in webcamming from her home in Glasgow. Here she talks about the realities of working as a webcam girl – and says women should not see the industry as a way to earn easy money.

I am noticing swathes of new, hopeful workers appearing on social media networks looking for those elusive £10,000 months as a means of surviving lockdown and coming out the other side with Prada handbags and Gucci boots.
I just want to paint a realistic, honest picture for those who think this will be an easy and/or temporary gig. First of all, this is not a “temporary” job. As an online worker, you must presume your tweets and photos are being screenshot and videos recorded and kept. Presume this work will follow you for life.
Even if you do change your mind or plan to just do this during lockdown and delete your account, your internet footprint will follow you, if not physically then certainly psychologically. Applying for jobs in the future will always be clouded with that fear of, “What if they know, what if I’ve missed a video, what if…?”
This is not an ideal scenario and believe me, one I am actively fighting to change. But until we are underpinned by a society free of stigma, you need to accept that this could be a permanent choice.
