PLYMOUTH'S health chief has urged bosses to encourage staff to stay at home if they test positive for Covid, despite their being no legal obligation.
Director for Public Health for Plymouth, Dr. Ruth Harrell, said people should try to avoid contact with others and stay at home for five days after a positive test - or developing symptoms.
Dr Harrell said employers should be encouraging their staff who have Covid-19 or are displaying symptoms of the virus, to stay at home for five days or until they no longer have a temperature. She said this would help "avoid spread to other employees in the workplace", as well as people they may come into contact with through their work.
She said that while we "all want our lives to return to normal”, we must "remain cautious".
Dr. Harrell said we must expect that new variants may emerge and we “just don't know how infectious and how severe they might be".
