PLYMOUTH Argyle will be without defender Lewis Gibson for today's Championship clash at Stoke City after he yesterday joined Preston North End for what the club called a "significant undisclosed fee."

The 24-year-old moved to Home Park in the summer of 2023 as a free agent after turning down a contract offer at Everton, where he had been since a boy. In total, he made 63 appearances for the Pilgrims and scored his one and only goal in the recent 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough at Home Park.

A short statement released by the Pilgrims read: Lewis Gibson has left Argyle to sign for Preston North End.

Gibson moves to PNE for a significant transfer fee that meets a preexisting clause in the player's deal.

"We thank Lewis for his contribution in the green and white, and wish him the very best for the future."

Argyle also have a doubt over striker Ryan Hardie, who was substituted during the second half of the 2-2 draw against Bristol City at Home Park on New Year's Day after hurting his left shoulder in a challenge. He was already playing with stitches in a badly gashed left knee, which he suffered in the pre-Christmas home game against Middlesbrough.

Argyle first team coach Kevin Nancekivell said at a Press conference on Thursday: "Ryan came off with a sore shoulder but hopefully that's not too bad."
