Cold temperatures in winter bring some fantastic photographic opportunities that you can only get at this time of year – from frost-covered foliage, to beautiful landscapes adorned with snow. In this project we’ll show you how you can even take brilliant photos of a frozen windshield on a crisp winter’s morning.

When you’re in a hurry on a cold winter’s morning, a frozen car windscreen can be quite the nuisance. However, if you can spare a few minutes it’s worth taking a few shots of the incredibly intricate ice patterns before reaching for your ice scraper or can of de-icer.

We had great success with an EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM kit lens, as it had a close focusing distance of just 25cm. However, if you own a macro lens you can get even better results from inside.
