Porter Roaring Again As Lions Set For Windies
The Cricket Paper
|February 09,2018
INJURY has not slowed Jamie Porter this winter and if the early stages of the Porter roaring again as Lions set for Windies tour to West Indies are anything to go by, the Essex seamer might be better than ever.
A stress fracture in the 24-year-old’s back denied him a spot on the Lions tour Down Under alongside the Ashes party earlier this winter.
But his recovery over Christmas has gone smoothly and after a rip-roaring summer that saw him take 75 County Championship wickets as Essex lifted the trophy for the first time in 25 years, Porter was passed fit for the Caribbean.
And in the Lions’ final warm-up game in Trelawny, Jamaica, this week, the youngster took 3-24 to signal his intent for the three-match ‘Test’ series to come – beginning on Sunday.
“It was nice to get a game and I felt the ball come out really well, so personally I was very happy with my preparation heading into the first game,” he said.
“I feel like I am in a very good place physically and mentally – that has given me a lift.
“I knew that it was a realistic target to be fit for this trip, but still in my head I was thinking about the what ifs.
