AFTER 17 YEARS APART, THEY’RE BACK ON

- Rebekah Hebenton

The one that got away - BENIFER STRIKES AGAIN!

As teens once again don low-rise jeans and smear their eyelids in blue eyeshadow, it seems that one of Hollywood’s power couples of the early 2000s has been inspired to rekindle their romance. After weeks of rumours, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were finally photographed together on a snowy getaway in Montana.

In 2002, Jennifer Lopez was one of the biggest names in music and cinema – at one point, she had the number-one album and movie in the US. Meanwhile, Ben Affleck was a heartthrob leading man who was struggling to have a hit after his Oscar win for Good Will Hunting four years earlier.

Sparks flew for the pair on the set of their much-maligned film Gigli, which was so poorly received it was pulled from cinemas after three weeks and remains one of the biggest box-office flops of all time.

But they didn’t let that failure hold them down – after just five months together, Ben proposed with a stunning custom-made 6.1-carat pink diamond ring. They were branded “Bennifer” – the first pair to receive a couples moniker – and every move that they made created headlines around the world.

But the pressure of a public relationship started to take its toll. They postponed their 2003 wedding days before the ceremony was supposed to take place. Then they called their relationship off for good a few months later.
