The only way for yo-yo dieter Libby Collins, 38, to slim down for good was to raise the stakes…
Pricey gym memberships, personal trainers, slimming clubs – over the years I’d tried them all. But, a classic yo-yo dieter, no sooner had I slimmed down, I piled it all back on again. The result? I’d been obese most of my adult life.
Thing is, as a doctor, I knew my 18st bulk – far too hefty for my 5ft 5in frame – wasn’t setting a good example. With my chubby cheeks and tubby tummy, it was hard for me – the ‘fat GP’ – to tell patients how whittling their waists could boost their health.
I’d see them eyeing my rolls of fat thinking, ‘What does she know?’ I got so fed up with it that, last year, I decided it was time to shift those stubborn pounds for good. And I felt so determined that I was even prepared to put money on it. Yes, that’s right. I actually bet on myself to beat the bulge!
