In today’s world, smartphones have become incredibly versatile, with a plethora of apps for almost everything you can imagine. However, with increased capabilities comes a proportional increase in distractions, making it easier to lose focus. It is in situations like this that you need to enter into ‘Focus Mode’, blocking out unnecessary elements. And that’s precisely what the new xDrive50 variant of the iX electric SUV feels like – as BMW has switched on its ‘Focus Mode’. The emphasis is on performance – a hallmark of the BMW brand. So, how successfully has the Bavarian brand achieved this result?
IS IT A DRIVER’S CAR?
The xDrive50 is equipped with two motors, generating 516bhp of peak power and 765Nm of maximum torque. For reference, the xDrive50 produces 194bhp and 135Nm more than the model already on sale for a while. The top speed, however, is still limited to 200km/h, but the acceleration has notably improved – it can sprint to 100km/h from a standstill in a claimed time of 4.6 seconds.
What makes driving the upgraded iX even more enjoyable is that prodding the right pedal sends the rear into a playful slide, accompanied by the satisfying sound of tyres squealing with delight. The quirky hexagonal steering wheel offers precise control, allowing you to effortlessly correct your course.
