EMERGING TECH IS FOSTERING A VIBRANT ENVIRONMENT

Despite growing opportunities, women in India continue to be underrepresented in the STEM fields. This disparity is not due to a lack of skills but to a stereotypical perception of girls’ and women’s abilities and appropriate careers, feels Rajesh Mani, SVP. Head of India Tech Hub, Mastercard.

Could you please elaborate on the kind of technology talent and_ expertise which is required to fuel such a rapidly growing industry and manage consumer expectations?

Emerging technologies are fostering a vibrant environment as businesses are coping with technological disruptions. We are witnessing an increase in demand for blockchain experts as blockchain serves as the foundation for Web 3.0. With the rapidly growing industry, the tech talent of the future needs to become competent in data structures, databases, cryptography, and programming languages like Java, C++, and Python remain essential.

Cybersecurity is also a skill set that is in high demand and will remain so in the future. Having a solid grasp of vulnerability and penetration tests, and cybersecurity tools will become highly valuable in this space.

The expertise required to manage consumer expectations includes a range of skills. Besides technical know-how, candidates must understand that communication goes beyond just speaking and writing. It is crucial to communicate across roles and be a good listener and communicator.
