ALUMINIUM HAS MADE MODERN LIFE POSSIBLE—FROM THE SMARTPHONE TO THE PLANE THAT WE FLY IN, TO THE BUILDINGS WHERE WE LIVE AND WORK. AS OUR ECONOMIES GROW AND LIVING STANDARDS RISE, INDUSTRY EXPERTS EXPECT THAT DEMAND FOR ALUMINIUM WILL INCREASE. ALUMINIUM, A SUSTAINABLE METAL THAT CAN BE RECYCLED INFINITELY CAN PLAY A VERY VITAL ROLE IN THE HUMAN ECOLOGY. RAHUL SHARMA, CEO, VEDANTA ALUMINIUM, IN HIS CONVERSATION WITH MANUFACTURING TODAY, TALKS ABOUT HOW VEDANTA IS SETTING THE PATHWAY TO THE AGE OF ALUMINIUM.

SETTING THE PATHWAY TO THE AGE OF ALUMINIUM

FOR RUNNING THE WHEEL OF DEVELOPMENT and sustainability, there is a need for an ideal metal that can restore an environmentally-friendly future but still serve various industrial purposes. Aluminium is the answer to achieve a circular economy without putting development at the backseat.

Lightweight, malleable, conductive, corrosion-resistant, recyclable—so much so that the latest Apple laptops are made from recycled aluminium. One of the most versatile and plentifully found metal on the planet that can be recycled and reutilised any number of times, Aluminium is the most sustainable option in its category. As per the World Economic Forum, 75% of the aluminium ever produced is still in use. Being the most common metal present in the Earth’s Crust, aluminium has a widespread influence that touches lives. From playing an integral part in household kitchens to facilitating the production of an aircraft’s structural elements, the metal has come a long way. As this metal is getting increasingly widespread, more people are now realising its value and versatility of it. All the indications are that the growth in the use of aluminium will likely accelerate. It is expected that in the near future the use of aluminium with specifically improved properties will grow in many applications, meeting the increased economic and ecological demands.
