The daughters of Earl Spencer, brother of the Prince’s late mother Diana, Princess of Wales, looked stunning in co-ordinating floorlength gowns as they walked the red carpet ahead of the event.
Diana was Centrepoint’s patron until her death in 1997 and brought Prince William and his brother Prince Harry to homeless shelters when they were children so they could learn more. William has followed in her footsteps as patron of the charity for nearly 20 years.
The glamorous event at the British Museum in London was also attended by another of William’s cousins, Princess Beatrice, and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi; the couple are expecting their second child early next year.
It was hosted by Claudia Winkleman, with performances by singers Beverley Knight, Rag’n’Bone Man and Joe Devlin, who has his own experience of homelessness.
But the focus of the night was the achievements of six young people who have overcome homelessness with the support of Centrepoint and gone on to demonstrate leadership, academic accomplishment and dedication to their communities.
SUPREME ACHIEVEMENTS
Lady Kitty, 33, who is an ambassador for Centrepoint, joined William, dapper in a blue velvet tuxedo, on stage to present the first award to Andrew, 30 (winners’ surnames were withheld for privacy), for his “incredible” maturity and work ethic.
Since moving to the charity’s independent living accommodation, he has completed an apprenticeship and raised funds for young people.
