Apple TV+’s hit comedy Ted Lasso follows the titular coach from America as he tries to cut it as a Premier League football manager in England. Now, the Disney+ documentary series Welcome to Wrexham – which begins with two episodes available from Thursday 25 August – tells the real-life story of how Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney became the owners of one of the world’s oldest football clubs, Welsh side Wrexham AFC!

The pair had never met face to face when, two years ago, they launched a successful £2 million takeover bid for the club, which in recent seasons has survived administration but dropped out of the English Football League, and is now in the fifth-tier National League.

So how would two A-list actors with zero football experience fare as owners of a Welsh club with a proud history, strong community links and a passionate fan base? The 10-parter promises to answer that question as it follows Ryan and Rob on their steep learning curve at the home of ‘The Dragons’, the Racecourse Ground, the world’s oldest international football venue.
