ALAN CARR on scoring a hit with a comedy charting his childhood

- HANNAH DAVIES

Second ROUND

CHANGING ENDS

SATURDAY, 9PM & 9.30PM, ITV1 COMEDY (BOX SET, ITVX)

Alan Carr was delighted with the response to the first season of his semiautobiographical sitcom, Changing Ends. Now, the comedian, 48, is bringing more tales from his colourful childhood in 1980s Northampton as the son of a Fourth Division football manager to our screens as the show returns for a second run, this time airing in weekly double bills in a Saturday prime-time slot on ITV1 as well as dropping as a box set on ITVX.

As the six-parter begins in 1987, Young Alan (played by Oliver Savell) is contending with the agony of being relentlessly bullied at school as well as the worries of impending puberty, while his footy loving dad, Graham (Shaun Dooley), is distracted by Northampton Town FC’s promotion battle.

image‘The first series went down so well that I thought, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” and I’ve got so many more stories to tell. I mean, my whole life is like a sitcom!’ says Alan, who will again steer each episode in his role as narrator.
