Since its launch in 1999, Rodial, a luxury beauty label, has created a name for itself for its unique approach to formulas and product names. As it launches in India, founder Maria Hatzistefanis shares more about the brand.

BOLD BEGINNINGS

GRAZIA: The brand is well-known for its products with intriguing names, such as Dragon’s Blood and Snake Serum. What was your thought process behind choosing those names?

MARIA HATZISTEFANIS: When I developed Snake Serum, I was really inspired by the key ingredient Syn-ake, which is a peptide capable of freezing facial muscles, a little like cosmetic injections. I loved that Syn-ake was mimicking the effects of being bitten by a snake, and I thought calling the product Snake Serum would really create a buzz. This helped put Rodial on the map. This is the formula I followed with our other collections such as Dragon's Blood and Bee Venom.
